Indian Cricket Stars failure in Ranjhi Trophy 2025

Several prominent Indian cricketers have recently struggled in the Ranji Trophy 2025, raising concerns ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Rohit Sharma

Returning to the Ranji Trophy after nearly a decade, Sharma was dismissed for just 3 runs against Jammu and Kashmir. This performance marked a 19-year low in his first-class career, with a season average of 10.43 across 16 innings—the lowest by an Indian batter since 2006.

Shubman Gill

Playing for Punjab against Karnataka, Gill managed only 4 runs. His recent form has been under scrutiny, especially after scoring just 93 runs in five innings during the series in Australia.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Representing Mumbai, Jaiswal was dismissed for 4 runs in the same match as Sharma. Despite being India’s highest scorer in the five-test series in Australia, his domestic performance has been disappointing.

Rishabh Pant

Making a rare appearance for Delhi, Pant scored just 1 run off 10 balls against Saurashtra. This was his first Ranji match since the 2017-2018 season, and his underwhelming performance has raised concerns.

Ajinkya Rahane

Representing Mumbai, Rahane managed only 12 runs in a recent match against Jammu and Kashmir. His form has been inconsistent, raising concerns about his role in the national team.

Shreyas Iyer

Also playing for Mumbai, Iyer was dismissed for 11 runs in the same game. Given his pivotal position in India’s middle order, his lack of substantial scores in domestic cricket is worrisome.

These performances have led to criticism from fans and analysts, especially with the ICC Champions Trophy approaching. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had encouraged players to participate in domestic cricket to regain form, but the recent outings have been far from encouraging.

The struggles of these key players in domestic matches highlight the challenges facing the Indian cricket team as they prepare for upcoming international tournaments.
